Car Calculator Glossary

Total purchase price (before tax): This is the total cost of your car purchase without the sales tax.
Monthly payment: The payment you make every month for your car financing.
Term in months: The duration of your car loan, expressed in months.
Interest rate: The interest rate for your car loan.
Cash down: The total amount of cash you use for the car purchase.
Non-taxable fees (optional): Any fees that are not subject to sales tax.
Taxable fees (optional): Any fees that are subject to sales tax.
Sales tax rate: The percentage rate charged for the sales tax on the car purchase.
Trade allowance: The amount you get for any car that you trade-in as part of the deal. Depending on your state the trade-in may also reduce your sales tax.
Amount owed on trade: Total car loan balance outstanding on the trade-in.
No sales tax deduction for trade-in: If your state allows no tax deductions for trade-ins and calculates sales tax on your full car purchase price, check this box. If you don’t, the sales tax will be calculated on the car purchase price less the trade in.
